African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF)
Founded in 1957, AMREF is a health non-governmental organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. AMREF's mission is to improve the health of disadvantaged people in Africa as a means for them to escape poverty and improve the quality of their lives. AMREF works on six areas of focus, or Priority Intervention Areas (PIAs): HIV/AIDS, TB and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Malaria, Safe Water and Basic Sanitation, Family Health, Clinical Services, Disaster Management and Emergency Response and Training and Health Learning Materials.

AMREF has 7 offices across Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, and National Offices in Europe and North America.
